The Irish manufacturing sector deteriorated in September as new business dipped and job shedding accelerated at the steepest rate in 10 months September data pointed to the first deterioration in operating conditions at Irish manufacturing firms since February. New orders decreased for the first time in seven months and production growth slowed again.
The seasonally adjusted NCB Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) - - an indicator designed to provide a single figure measure of the health of the manufacturing industry - - fell below the no-change mark of 50.0 for the first time in seven months as new business, employment and pre-production inventories all decreased.
September data signalled a modest contraction in new business at Irish manufacturers, the first reduction in seven months. Panellists suggested that demand had fallen during the month. New export business also declined, for the first time since October 2009.
