For a generation of Russians who queued daily in the snow for the most basic of staples, the symbolism of a bare supermarket shelf is so powerful that it could potentially destroy the reputation of Vladimir Putin, the prime minister, as saviour of the world’s largest country.
The shortages are not yet widespread. Even so, goods have begun to vanish from dozens of Moscow supermarkets over the past fortnight.
At a branch of the supermarket chain Samokhval in southwestern Moscow, a handful of shoppers pushed their trolleys through empty rows of shelves that once groaned under the weight of imported wares.

Средняя цена московского жилья на вторичном рынке за период с 13 по 17 октября снизилась на 5,24% до 7210 долларов за квадратный метр, передает ПРАЙМ-ТАСС со ссылкой на результаты мониторинга рынка жилой недвижимости.
Цена предложения в панельных домах снизилась на 5,44% до 6342 долларов за квадратный метр, квартиры в кирпичных домах подешевели на 5,16% до 8175 долларов за квадратный метр.
Минимальное снижение цен было отмечено в ЦАО и СЗАО – -4,2%, максимальное – в ЮВАО -6,2%. Что касается типов домов, сильнее всего подешевели квартиры в 12-этажных панельных домах. Объем сделок за неделю возрос на 5,2%.

Prices in the second hand market fell by 5.24% for the week.

The average price of housing in Moscow on the second-hand market for the period from October 13th to 17th fell by 5.24% to 7,210 dollars per square meter, PRIME-TASS reported, citing the results of monitoring residential sales in the real estate market.
Asking prices in apartments declined by 5.44% to 6,342 dollars per square meter and brick homes are cheaper at 5.16% to 8,175 dollars per square meter.
As for the types of homes, most cheaper apartments in the 12-storey buildings. The volume of transactions per week increased by 5.2%.
