Or stay on the dole, maybe have it send to Poland. Another piece of Polish government spin.
This was covered on Newstalk this am
Polish guy said they were going back to Poland but not staying long the wages were poor
I can confirm, being Polish myself that there is a number of my fellow countrymen going back where I live - a thing unheard of say a year or two ago. Some (construction guys mostly) stay here on the dole for a while, however those have enough PRSI paid up, and are entitled to it by law - there is no system exploitation of any kind. There is also a lot of guys who worked with no legal contract, those have no entitlements and just go back.
I would say this would be the Brazilians who create the most of the empties in my area (Galway Co.) at the moment - they have no entitlements to social welfare at all not to mention having no visa, when the jobs dried up they have no option but to pack up and go.
Where I live there is 4 times more properties for rent advertised now that a year before (on daft) and rents are falling, remaining tenants negotiating lower rents. There is also an awful lot of empty and half built estates so it is hard to say if this is us Polish leaving or just the crash is getting crashier.
Nowdays in Poland you can get decent money only in construction, everywhere else there is the same s**t. Polish girls are famously nice, a can of good beer costs 50c, maybe we’ll see some Irish builders in Poland soon - you are welcome lads.
What are the chances of this happening?
Its obviously not a traditional destination for the Irish but neither was Germany and I know some guys who went to East Germany in the 90s when there was a building boom there. The European football championships are due to be held in Poland in a few years time and there is huge amounts of money being pumped into infrastructural projects by the EU. If construction wages are decent and the whole of the western Europane construction industry is in recession, I would expect some Irish builders to turn up in Poland over the coming years. A Polish friend of mine who worked as an engineer in Dublin for four years but returned home last April, e-mailed me to say that he is hearing of many Polish builders coming home at the moment - and he is as busy now in Poland as he was in Dublin during the Celtic Tiger/Rabid Tomcat.
The question would appear to be whether the Polish boom will continue long enough for it to become a destination of choice for unemployed construction workers from elsewhere.

I thought I’d posted on the Chinese in Poland, but I can’t find it now. Here’s a different link re Chinese, Indians, Ghanaians…
Poland is 1-1.5 year behind. We are now in denial, little activity on the martket but prices stay unchanged. Big developers are stopping all construction that can be easily suspended. Soon our builders would have nothing to do…
Regarding beer, you can’t get imports for 50c and Polish beer is nothing more than yellow colored water.

Frankly, over here, we find your American beer is a little like making love in a canoe… it’s fucking close to water!

Priceless B12! I think you’ve gone native.
The Polish (and others) Arrival created the empties !
Simple stochastic modeling.
Net immigration matched against the new houses built per year.
Building houses to house the builders arriving to build the houses to house the people…etc…
Once the bubble burst the builders go home hence the empties.
The Polish (and others) exodus is just turning the lights out in the empties.
