One of Ireland’s biggest banks has called for the introduction of a shared ownership scheme to make home ownership more affordable.
AIB says the introduction of a shared ownership or loan equity scheme would help a key segment of the market – people who earn too much to qualify for social housing but not enough to get a sufficient mortgage to buy their own home.
I remember plenty of chat about Shared Ownership back in 2008 when nobody would buy houses and the developers were claiming that it was due to lack of government support.
Maybe it makes some sense to get some private cash into government provided housing versus none. Even better would be Shared Ownership alongside Multi-Generational Mortgages in case the shared owners couldn’t afford to go out and got too close!
