The Final Countdown - Speculation on Irish bailout EU/IMF

#21

The final hours in the bunker.

#22

Would a socialist leaning EU be favourable to a capitalist leaning IMF? If there was a choice and different conditions would be imposed by whichever one bails us out.

#23

Isn’t this the crucial point?
The Deauville divils, France and Germany, have driven up peripheral bonds.
If it came to a bailout we always have the option to choose the IMF.
An operator independent of the EU who could choose how to impose losses on our major bondholders in Europe.
We are not the only ones who need to worry about loss of sovereignty.
Realising this, the rest of Europe may bring their own pressure to bear on Berlin and encourage them to make friendlier noises.

#24

The Eu is currently anything buut socialist leaning.
that’s part of the problem
France and Germany led by right wing pay me my mooney heads.

worst possible combo.

Rest of europe cowering before the big boys.

My gut instinct still tells me that bad and all as we are that Spain are hiding a lot of shite themselves.

Spain next.

Rumour is the plan is to remove Ireland from the bond markets for the next 3 years. A joint IMF/EFSF rescue with conditions. Possibly to be announced on Tuesday.

Just texted a friend with this news. It’s spooky that predictive text inserts “GOD” for “IMF” ! :open_mouth:

#32

It’s probably from a Bloomberg terminal - it will be linkable on their website later I would guess.

What does this “it will be combined with an IMF and EU adjustment program” mean?

Who will be taking the pain for the package?
Public sector?
Social welfare?
Everyone?

#36

I’d imagine the Croke park deal will be ripped up. Pain for everybody but more so on the PS pay levels which are ridiculous.

#37

it’s been 10 minutes and this statement has not yet been deleted and the thread locked! :open_mouth:
